Goat as Pets

Goats like to be together with the herd - at the same time they jostle - and never get in between a buck and his target.

Butler charges instantly  - displays 500 pounds of torgue in an instant - and while he is gentle at rest - he needs to be respected for the power within him!

Assisi: Week 4

Assisi is more active,  browsing in the pasture with the goats - she stays at a distance from them - they have horns afterall!

Happy Feet!

One of the thrills I get with so much open space is getting to watch animals on full out runs/sprints.  It is  so nice to see the body in great form extended movement.  Soon I will get my own body in the kind of shape that looks good on a full out run...Soon...

Assisi: Week 3

Friends Like Family

Sometimes we meet new friends who feel like family immediately - similar cultures - warm hearts.  These are sketches given to me by our new friends.  Their daughter who loves animals as much as I do has artistic talent, as well!  Soon she'll be riding horses at the farm and helping with pony rides!
This is the artists rendering of Blackfoot.
We'll try to get Blackfoot better trained to be a good horse to ride in the future.
Blackfoot is a wild mustang born in 2004 = 11 years old.

Portraits: Butler

Butler is a mix - Saanen goat and Apawah - which we purchased from a dairy farm in Madison County.  He is really sweet, for a buck who is capable of so much power - he only gets rough when grain is involved ie. anything standing in between him and the grain - look out!

His horns are statuesque, his stature is on the smaller side for a buck, yet solid.
He breeds with precision so he charms the does.  We have 15 kids that are grown up and all his offspring.

Assisi: Week Two

Soon we can reintroduce the fawn into the wild, partly because it is starting to browse!
Born Free...
It has been a nice experience to be with a deer - a rare privilege.

Assisi: Week One

Gene has taken to milking the fawn when I am not around - he takes to animal care naturally - as I do.

Anyway, animals bring us joy even as we do the tireless chores of mucking and bottle feeding (as the case of our first fawn - Assisi).
